How does an Umbrella Company work?
Sombrilla signs a contract with your agency or client, and you in turn have a separate employment agreement with Sombrilla. This effectively makes Sombrilla your employer. Once Sombrilla have your timesheets and expenses claims, they will invoice your agency or client, receive the money and then pay you less any tax.
You avoid all the red tape that comes with being a company director. You avoid all the hassle of IR35 and the risks of infringing anti-avoidance legislation. You have no fees to pay when you're not working, and you still get tax relief on your expenses.
